Cup of Coffee: A Sacred Baseball Sonnet
What might've been...

How brief it is, our visit here,
Where sunlight stripes the garden green
Of baseball fields, year after year,
As we replay what might’ve been:
I strove to be a switch-hit star,
But ripped a knee, so there you are.
Just out of reach the dream has gone,
Always ahead has glory swept,
And its sweet ray on others shone,
While bitterness my heart has kept.
How do I let my life release
The ‘might’ve-beens’, and take up peace?
My locker’s bare, except the gift
From Him who does all burdens lift.
