But burnt off, consumed like chaff,
Or a great, exultant laugh
Is that must, and is that grime,
Settled there from Adam’s time,
Our infection meets its cure,
Or cauterized, hot-knifed pure
Is in earth the wound we sank,
Ever of our sin it stank,
Launder…
