The Touchdown

Invest my hopes, attend my cheer,
You in motion rushing near—
Wheeling cleats which grip the grass,
Yard-marks in profusion pass.

Away they stretch at your back,
That vigorous, pounding pack
In pursuit, but greater space
Opens in their futile race.
